If you have a stain on your carpet, you will not necessarily have to replace the carpet or cover the stain with a rug. Here are a few tips on removing certain stains.
* Urine stains can be removed with soda water or white vinegar
* Egg stains: never use hot water. Cold water will help. If the stain is persistant, use benzine.
* Raw egg stains can be sprinkled with a thick layer of salt. Leave it to dry and brush off.
* Ink stains: Absorb as much ink as possible with towel roll. Press continuously with cloth dipped in boiled milk. Dry carpet with clean dry cloth.
* Tar / wax stains: Run a heated iron over absorbing cloth or towel roll placed on the stain. Be careful not to burn the carpet. Start with the iron a few centimeters above the cloth and move closer to make sure you don't burn or scorch the carpet. Absorb as much wax as possible with the cloth and remove the rest of the stain with benzine.
* Wine and blood stains: Try to attend to such stain as soon as possible. If you catch it at an early stage, soap and water will do the trick, along with a heaped teaspoon of elbow grease.
* Coffee stains can be removed with soda water. Pour soda water onto the stain and blot dry. Repeat until stain disappears.
* Mud stains: let the mud dry completely and brush away. The rest of the stain can be removed by rubbing a raw potato on the stain, allowing to dry and then brush off again.
* Oil / grease: Rub hair shampoo on the stain. Wait a few minutes and rub with a clean cloth.
