Dragging is a fine striped effect you get from dragging a clean dragging brush through a superficial coat of paint or a coloured oil glaze. It is very easy to do and needs absolutely no special skill. Also, it doesn’t take much time to complete.
First you have to apply the background paint. It is usually oil based paint with an eggshell finish. Cover the whole area which you want to decorate by dragging. When the background paint is applied, wait for it to dry completely.
The next part is very easy, but will work much easier when you are two persons. One must apply an even coating of coloured glaze the next person must take a clean, dry dragging brush and drag it through the wet glaze. Continue this until you have finished the whole area.
This technique can give an unusual attractive effect to a wall. It can also be used on furniture. It will also help to make cracks much less visible. It is very easy and can be done by anyone.
The background paint does not have to be the same colour as he coloured glaze. If the background is yellow, for example, and the coloured glaze is orange, the stripes caused by the dragging brush will be yellow. If both the background paint and the coloured glaze are the same colours, the effect would be a nice texture but not as visible as when you would have used two different colours.
Try this technique, it is very interesting and easy, even the kids can try it. It can turn out to be a nice family time experience.
