Filling Old Cracks & Holes Before Painting

When re-decorating a room painting is almost always part of the job. Cracks and old nail holes will give an uneven look to your freshly painted walls. Filling holes or cracks are easy and not expensive. If you want to do a thorough job, you definitely must fill all cracks and holes before painting a new coat.

Fillers are easy to use and can make a big difference to the final result of a newly decorated room. Although it doesn’t take lots of time, it is worth doing it.

Fillers are available in ready-to-use tubs or tubes or as a powder witch only needs to be mixed with water. When moving, furniture corners of walls can easily be chipped. Small holes can be filled with a filling knife and smoothed off. Bigger holes are filled and left to dry completely. Sand down until the surface is completely smooth.

How to use filler:

* Score the crack with the sides of a filling knife to widen the hole for the filler.
* Brush away all debris.
* Dampen the surface with a water soaked brush.
* Fill the crack completely with the filler and smooth it down with the filling knife.
* Leave to dry and harden for a few hours. Rub with glass paper to ensure a smooth finish.
