Painting a room or even your entire house doesn’t have to be a task for the professionals. You can do it yourself and save a lot of money.
Firstly, think about the colour you want. If you want a beige colour, go to your local paint depot and get as many different colours of beige on a colour chart. You can even ask them to mix the colour that you want so that it suits your individual needs.
It is important to spend some time when selecting a paintbrush. Ask professionals to help you choose the correct brush for the areas you are going to paint. You will need a roller and roller covers and make sure you buy roller covers that individually are individually wrapped so that you can put the roller cover back in the plastic between the first and second coat of paint. Don’t make the mistake of using a different roller cover for each coat because you left the first one drying out after the first coat. If you wrap it in plastic after the first coat, you can use it again for the second.
Make sure the surface you are about to paint is clean. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Move all furniture away from the walls and light fittings should be removed if you are planning on painting the ceiling.
To paint is not that hard – you simply pour your paint into the paint pan and cover the roller in paint. No paint should be dripping off the roller – that means you have too much paint on it. Roll it several times in the pan to get rid of excess paint. Roll from the top to the bottom, covering the entire surface.
A good quality brush is needed for the ceiling edges and corners. You should simply have to fill a line where the roller could not reach. After a few hours, apply your second coat using the same techniques.
Once you are satisfied with your paint job, throw away the roller cover and wash the paintbrush with warm water.
